Emo isn’t even a genre…? It’s literally just a subculture that formed AROUND post hardcore. Labels made it a thing to sell more bands, that’s it. The OG emo bands (Fugazi, Minor threat and black flag) didn’t even call themselves emo, they LITERALLY called themselves post hardcore. Emo is just the fashion and attitude that got ATTACHED to it like how goth came out of post punk but everyone forgot that and just thinks it’s about eyeliner and goth stuff (Goth is kind of like emo sp that just proves my point further). Like scene kids took the whole emotional (emo) thing and turned it into crunkcore and crabcore, which actually evolved out of metalcore and metalcore still carries that raw emo spirit. So if you actually think you’re emo stop listening to that poser indie pop punk garbage and listen to some fugazi.
